To clean the kitchen, you can generally simply use soapy water with the usual dishwashing liquid. However, some cleanings require a little elbow grease and especially good degreasers! Worktop, refrigerator, glass or oven interior, grids, baking trays… Grease residues leave behind stubborn stains that must be dissolved in order to be able to remove them properly. In this regard, one can of course go into the trade and buy chemical based products. However, a good homemade recipe will give you the same result, all at a lower cost and with respect for your health and the planet! Find out which household products you can use in your recipes to make the perfect kitchen degreaser.
Improved vinegar, a great degreaser for the kitchen
Of all ecological household products, white vinegar is one of the most recognized. Unparalleled multifunctionality, it’s both deodorant, limescale and degreaser. Using it alone is not always enough, however. It is often necessary to “improve” it a bit to increase the cleaning efficiency. Heating is a first trick that is often sufficient against grease stains. Otherwise, you can macerate the peels of citrus fruits (lemon, orange, grapefruit, etc.) in it for two weeks. This combines the effects of this powerful cleaning product with the degreasing properties of citrus fruits. After filtration, you just need to switch to an evaporator and vaporize where necessary.
The highly degreasing all-purpose cleaner
The basic recipe consists of diluting 60 g of Marseille soap in a liter of water and adding 6 drops of lemon essential oil. But you can do even better! For this homemade recipe, melt 1 tablespoon of Marseille soap flakes and 3 tablespoons of black soap in 500 ml of hot water. These two soaps bring a cleaning, stain removal and degreasing power. For even more efficiency, consider adding the juice of half an organic lemon, which will provide an invigorating scent in addition to an invigorating scentimprove degreasing efficiency of the recipe. However, it should be avoided for use on granite, marble or even wood. You can use this product in the kitchen, but also for all surfaces of the house to be degreased: floor, sink, table, bathtub, etc.
Used soda crystals
Do you want to make a product ready-to-use degreaser in three minutes flat ? So collect some soda crystals, citrus essential oils and a sprayer! Preferably choose a glass bottle that better supports the natural ingredients that you slide into it. In practice, it will suffice here to dilute 30 g of sodium hydroxide crystals with 500 ml of hot water. Then, to complete the action of your natural degreaser, add 20 drops of lemon or orange essential oil (for the degreasing side) or tea tree essential oil (or tea tree, an antifungal disinfectant). Spray this maintenance product and let it work for at least 15 minutes. Leave on overnight for more efficiency on difficult grease marks.
The degreaser spray with vinegar and alcohol for the kitchen
We don’t bother with this recipe! Simply pour 300ml of water, 180ml of white vinegar, 5ml of alcohol foam and 15 drops of your choice of essential oil directly into a clean spray bottle. Then close your bottle and shake it gently. It’s finished ! This product can be sprayed without rinsing onto the surface to be cleaned and then rubbed with a microfibre cloth or sponge. Don’t forget to shake the bottle for every use. Your degreasing spray has a shelf life of about 6 months.
Baking soda from baking soda: an indispensable degreaser for the kitchen
No more rushing to the supermarket to buy scouring cream. Just use baking soda to store your plates, grills or ovens! To do this, mix this natural powder with water to thick pasta. Then apply this mixture to the surfaces to be cleaned and rub. Warning: this product does not keep well. If you don’t want to keep it in an airtight container, it’s better to make it on demand.
The special vinegar-bicarbonate oven degreaser
To pamper your oven, mix 60 grams of baking soda with 60 drops of citrus essential oil. Sprinkle everything on the areas to be cleaned. Then cover with vinegar in sprays (about 6 tablespoons). Let stand overnight. During the chemical reaction, the products foam and degreasing the oven by mechanical action. This will help loosen it. The next day all you have to do is rub. If necessary, use water and dish soap to remove excess natural degreaser.
